We have often received feedback from our valued parents that they would like to see more STEM here at Lovell. For those unfamiliar, STEM standards for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics and is intended to equip children with the skills for life and work in a changing world.
Mr. Tom bravely volunteered to pilot this programme through our science club, and look into some of the equipment and resources that the children might really enjoy. This week the focus was on engineering – building, constructing and using tools.
It is great to see the children using real tools, such as hammers and screwdrivers to construct. Of course, a key part of this is to teach children how to hold and handle such apparatus safely. It was very impressive to see the children adapt quickly and understand how to build carefully and responsibly.
Though we will always keep true to our natural roots, we are excited to announce that all our primary classes at Lovell next school year will have dedicated STEM sessions every week to build this particular important skill set.
